Hmongtown Marketplace started in 2004 at its current site, a former lumber yard. The buildings of the lumber yard were renovated to make room for the vendor stalls. Currently, more than 200 vendors operate year round indoor and outdoor offering a variety of products and services.

The market is more than a place to shop. Since opening, Hmongtown Marketplace has become a vital institution for Hmong American community and Saint Paul. It is a place of thriving commercial activities that provides hundreds of jobs and opportunities for owning a business. A gathering place of colorful sights, sounds and a fascinating destination for experiencing the vibrant Hmong American community. It’s a glimpse into the street market life of Southeast Asia!

Hmongtown Marketplace is undergoing expansion. A building next to the existing market is planned for a renovation that when completed will add more than one hundred vendor stalls, creating more jobs and adding to the activities of the Marketplace.

In the coming years, to keep pace with its tremendous growth, the market will undergo a complete make-over.Cultural activities and programs will also be added to enhance the market’s commercial activities and the surrounding neighborhood.
